Tony Castro, Esq. has been a practicing attorney for over 35 years. He began his legal career in the Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County. During his 14 years as an assistant district attorney, he acquired invaluable experience.
Tony started in the Appeals Bureau where he researched and wrote appellate briefs and post-trial motions, and argued before the New York Appellate Division, First Department. In the Supreme Court Trial Division – Major Offense/Homicide Bureau he investigated and tried violent felony offenses including homicides, robberies, assaults and weapons cases. As the Grand Jury Evaluation Bureau and Homicide Deputy Chief, Tony not only supervised hundreds of assistant district attorneys over the years but continued to successfully try cases, including a Murder in the First Degree case, the highest crime in the state of New York
In recognition of the vast legal experience acquired at the Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County, Tony was invited to lecture nationally on DNA evidence. He lectured at The American Prosecutors Research Institute, National District Attorneys Association and the New York Prosecutors Training Institute. Additionally, he lectured at the New York State Police Academy and the New York City Police Academy on DNA, Criminal Court process, courtroom procedures and preparation of testimony.
For nearly two decades Tony Castro has been in private practice and has defended many criminal cases ranging from felonies, such as Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree (“A”- Felony) to misdemeanors including Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Tony has expanded his general practice into other areas including real estate and business transactions, building code violations, landlord/tenant, wills, and Family Court proceedings.
Tony was appointed by the Town of Harrison, County of Westchester, as Special Prosecutor for the Chief of Police, and by Nassau County to represent the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. More recently, he was appointed as an Administrative Law Judge with the Westchester County Human Rights Commission.
He also served as counsel to the New York Police Chiefs’ Benevolent Association and New York State Crime Stoppers.
Tony Castro graduated from Harvard College and Boston College Law School, and ran the two closest races for Westchester County District Attorney in the history of Westchester County – 2001 (6%) and 2005 (3%).
